The Sandy River Basin flanks the Cascade mountain range of northwestern Oregon, and drains an area of about 508 miles. The USDA Forest Service-Mt. Hood National Forest owns nearly the entire upper Sandy River Basin. By contrast, the lower Basin is predominantly privately owned and is characterized by both urban and agricultural use. The map shows a few private land holdings within the boundaries of the Mt. Hood National Forest, primarily in the Clear Creek/upper Sandy River area, as well as the Trillium Lake and Government Camp areas. A satellite view shows that forests cover a majority of the area.
