The Sandy River Basin Partners strive to provide a scientifically based approach to Basin-wide restoration. To this end, the Partners generated several reports and databases that provide significant background information on the Sandy Basin.

Sandy River Basin Characterization Report
This report describes salmon habitat conditions in the Basin. Although considerable information was already available on the Sandy River Basin, no single previous document had assembled the information using a multidimensional approach similar to the one presented in the Characterization Report. Sandy Basin Ecosystem Diagnosis & Treatment assessment process
In 2001, the Partners worked collaboratively to develop a fish habitat database and model to help assess conditions for Chinook, steelhead and coho within the Sandy River Basin. The database and model are based on Ecosystem Diagnosis and Treatment methodology that has been widely used in the Pacific Northwest. Results of these assessments were used to identify approximately 150 restoration opportunities targeted to address limiting factors for the fish. These restoration opportunities are described in the Sandy Basin Aquatic Habitat Restoration Strategy in the next section below. For information on the Sandy River EDT model and how it was developed, download these two documents:
Sandy Basin Anchor Habitat Assessment
In this report, the Sandy River Basin Working Group (an affiliated group sharing membership with the Partners) has identified distinct stream reaches within the Basin that are essential anchor habitat for salmon and steelhead populations. The Partners believe a successful habitat restoration strategy in the Sandy River Basin should focus on the remaining, relatively intact riverine habitat that currently supports a disproportionate share of wild salmon and steelhead. Sandy Basin Aquatic Habitat Restoration Strategy: An Anchor Habitat-Based Prioritization of Restoration Opportunities
This long-term restoration strategy is a major milestone in eight years of collaboration among the Sandy River Basin Partners. The affiliated Sandy River Basin Working Group worked to assess watershed and aquatic conditions in the basin, identify specific restoration actions, and develop this overall aquatic habitat restoration strategy. The strategy was developed using a hierarchical framework to guide the implementation of restoration actions in each watershed. This framework was adopted by the Partners and takes a holistic watershed view, addressing the aquatic habitat restoration needs for recovery and long-term persistence of salmon and steelhead populations in the basin.
